Brick patios are beautiful - but they're also magnets for algae, moss, and green buildup. Over time, that growth gets into the mortar joints and across the surface, and the whole patio starts to look neglected even when everything else around it is well-kept. That's exactly what we were dealing with here in Penn Valley.
We used a soft wash approach on this one. That's important with brick, because blasting it with high pressure can damage the mortar and erode the surface. Soft washing uses a lower-pressure rinse combined with the right cleaning solution to kill the organic growth at the root - not just push it around. The result holds up a lot longer too.
The green was pretty heavy on the right side of the patio, spreading across a big portion of the surface. After the soft wash, the true color of the brick came back through. Deep red tones, clean mortar lines, the whole thing looking like it belongs to the house again.
Brick is one of those surfaces that cleans up incredibly well when it's done right. A lot of homeowners don't realize how much of a difference it makes until they see it side by side. It's one of our favorite types of jobs for that reason.
Spring is when most people start thinking about getting their outdoor spaces back in shape, and a clean patio makes everything else look better too. If you've got green growth or general grime on your brick, this is exactly the kind of work we do.
